Citizen President Trump: the government we deserve.

I'm guessing that the anonymous writer is former general John F. Kelly, Trump's chief of staff. The writer should have resigned.

They're such weasels. I can't believe that anyone would serve and go along with Trump sending out personal Twitter messages, which are not vetted. That should have ended the day after the election.

Trump is the first citizen president. He was neither a politician or general. Hoover had been the closest, having been Commerce secretary most of the four years before his election.

As citizen president, Trump is us. We are Trump. The hatred for Trump is self loathing. We finally get to be president and look at what we are. Trump is what he is and we shouldn't expect much more or better. But look at how we have reacted. We've become increasingly irrational, petty and, above all else, intolerant. We should know better. Discussion is a game to see who can call the other a racist the fastest, even for matters that are not about race. Maybe especially for matters that are not about race.

We're pretty awful and we're getting worse, more quickly than Trump. When Trump is gone, we won't have Trump to kick around anymore, to paraphrase Nixon after he lost the 1962 election for governor of California. We'll return to having the politicians and generals running the country and world, the thing we thought was so terrible for so long.

We get the government we deserve.
